5-vehicle crash temporarily closes part of 82 Street

A five-vehicle crash closed part of 82 Street between Yellowhead Trail and 127 Avenue Tuesday evening.

Police on scene said the crash was triggered by a southbound driver on 82 Street who came up to traffic at a high rate of speed and was unable to stop.

The 28-year-old man behind the Jeep’s wheel rear-ended a Dodge Ram, which struck a Mercedes, which hit a Ford Focus, which collided with a Mitsubishi RVR.

Only he was seriously hurt and taken to hospital; the other drivers sustained minor injuries.

The Jeep driver was arrested.

The area was closed until 9:30 p.m.
