14-year prison sentence handed down in fatal stabbing of St. Albert teen

The man who fatally stabbed a 15-year-old boy has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Keigh James Landry, 42, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of Broden Radomske on April 13.

Radomske was killed on May 21, 2024, while on a dog walk with his mother, 12-year-old brother, Landry, and two other adults in the area of 137 Avenue and 184 Street.

Court documents showed Landry had been drinking heavily and using drugs in the 24 hours leading up to the stabbing.

According to the agreed statement of facts, Radomske and his brother were horsing around during the walk when Landry pulled out a knife and slashed the teen’s throat.

A sentencing hearing was held on Wednesday. Landry was present, wearing a white dress shirt and khakis.

Family members and friends had the opportunity to read victim impact statements sharing how Radomske’s death has changed their lives.

“Prior to May 21, 2024, I had considered Keith a friend,” Radomske’s mother, Cherie Moran said.

“I trusted Keith.”

“That was the last day my family was together.”

“I will never see my son again.”

A statement from Radomske’s father, Clayton Radomske, was read by the Crown.

He shared memories of watching his sons grow up playing hockey and camping.

“This senseless act of violence profoundly changed my life,” he said.

A close friend of Radomske’s said he doesn’t know how to move on from his friend’s death.

“You took my best friend,” he said.

“You broke me. You broke so many people.”

The 14-year sentence was put forward as a joint submission between the Crown and defence.

Landry was given credit for 1,050 days of pretrial custody, which means he will spend almost 11 more years behind bars.
