Moncton man takes 'Elf on the Shelf' to real-life extremes

A Moncton, N.B., man is bringing the Elf on The Shelf to life, and has taken some extreme measures to keep a watchful eye on his assigned family.

Over the past few weeks, Megan Wynberg has been sharing photographs of her husband, Joe, decked out like Santa's diminutive helpers in various funny locations around their home.

Megan first introduced her friends and family to the elf with the name "FLE" on Nov. 30, saying that she planned to surprise their kids. She promised that he would be watching to make sure if they've been naughty or nice over the next 24 days. But FLE is getting into all sorts of trouble on his scouting mission for Santa.

Three days after his introduction, FLE was seen making snow angels with flour in the family's home.

"Because picking up after four kids isn't enough," Megan Wynberg wrote on Facebook.

"FLE Was pretty excited about the first snowfall of the year, and I'm pretty sure he peed on the floor – I'm getting rid of this thing."

FLE was also photographed trying to get into the family's home through the chimney.

Forcing the family to try and get the noisy elf "under control."

Megan told CTV Atlantic that the family's four children, who are all under the age of six, are too young to really appreciate the stunts, and they do it mostly for their own entertainment.

"It's been fun, and I assure everybody we probably laugh more than they do every night," she said.

The Elf on The Shelf has been a phenomenon since first being introduced to the world 10 years ago, and more than 8 million toys have been sold. Each figurine comes with an accompanying book explaining the elf's role as a scout for Santa, reporting back on who deserves toys, and who deserves a lump of coal.
