The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo says it has euthanized one of its oldest grizzly bears. Skoki, 35, was receiving supportive care—including pain management and diet adjustments—during his final years. The grizzly first joined the zoo in 1996, after becoming a “problem bear” in Banff National Park. The zoo says Skoki’s calm, easy-going nature and presence taught millions of visitors about bears and how to safely co-exist with them over the past three decades. The zoo is now watching his habitat mate, who is also receiving comfort care.
