Film director and producer Wendy Hill-Tout found inspiration for her latest film close to home—down the street in a pub with her neighbours. “What I loved most about them is they’re ordinary women, and I wanted to show how extraordinary every one of them is,” Hill-Tout told CTV News. Hill-Tout’s documentary, WWW: The Women’s Group, will make its world premiere Sept. 27 as part of the Calgary International Film Festival. The film zeroes in on a group of older women and their boozy get-togethers every Wednesday but also examines the losses they’ve experienced along the way—widowhood, cancer, divorce. Hill-Tout says the film is really about community. “These women have found a community. Someone said, ‘Some of them could be quite lonely if they didn’t have this group,’ and they do and I think that’s a wonderful thing,” Hill-Tout said.
