Windsor residents and visitors on the riverfront had a chance to see a special message fly by on Monday. The Downtown Detroit Partnership (DDP) commissioned a plane to fly over the Detroit River between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to wish Canadians a happy Thanksgiving. The 30-foot aerial banner was “celebrating the longstanding friendship between our communities and the new Gordie Howe International Bridge,” said the DDP. It was organized by members of the Metro Detroit community and facilitated by the Downtown Detroit Partnership. “This heartfelt gesture carries a simple message: Detroit and Canada are bridged in friendship,” posted the DDP on Monday. That’s exactly what the banner said “O CANADA, BRIDGED IN FRIENDSHIP, HAPPY THANKSGIVING.” The plane flew along the river between Belle Isle and the Gordie Howe International Bridge. The DDP works with the Windsor International Film Festival and many other people and organizations in the city to promote and foster the binational relationship.
