A 26-year-old Sudbury man has been charged with stunt driving and impaired following an incident early in the morning Oct. 11 that started on Notre Dame Avenue. Police were contacted just before 2:40 a.m. about a motorcycle driver with a passenger who was driving erratically on Notre Dame Avenue. “Information provided to police indicated the motorcycle was swerving across the roadway, preventing another vehicle from passing, and driving dangerously close to it,” police said in a news release Oct. 13. “A short time later, officers observed the motorcycle travelling at a high rate of speed and proceeding through red lights. Due to the erratic behaviour of the driver and dangerous operation of the motorcycle, officers did not attempt to stop the motorcycle.” Injured in collision About 10 minutes later, police received a call about a motorcycle involved in a crash on Elm Street at the Beatty Street/Regent Street intersection. “Officers attended the scene and determined the motorcycle had proceeded through a red light before striking another vehicle,” police said. “The driver of the motorcycle was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported. As a result of the investigation, officers determined the driver was impaired at the time of the collision.” The motorcycle driver has been charged with dangerous driving, impaired driving and stunt driving. His driver’s licence was automatically suspended for 90 days and the motorcycle has been impounded. He appeared in weekend bail court on Sunday, police said. Police “remind motorists that impaired and dangerous driving behaviours continue to pose a serious risk to our community. Anyone who observes unsafe driving is encouraged to contact police when it is safe to do so.”
