It’s difficult to listen to Nana McLean, Canada’s Queen of Reggae, and not get swept up in her enthusiasm for the genre. “We cannot give up on reggae music. This weekend, I’m going to invite everyone to come with the kids because we’re going to have fun. It’s going to be a family thing. We’re going to have some fun!” McLean told CTV News. McLean performs Saturday, Aug. 29, at ReggaeFest at The Rise on St. Patrick’s Island. Born and raised in Linstead, Jamaica, McLean has lived in Toronto since the late 1970s and won the Juno for best reggae recording in 1997. Unlike other Jamaican artists who moved to Canada but then returned home, McLean put down roots here. “I love Canada with all my heart,” she said. “When I go to Jamaica, I can’t wait to be back in Canada.”
