Weather statement issued for the City of Calgary

A snowfall warning has been issued for Banff and Jasper National Parks by Environment Canada. A special weather statement has been issued for the City of Calgary and many other areas in southwestern Alberta as well.

Call it winter's last gasp, but residents in the City of Calgary and many other communities in southwestern Alberta will be getting more white stuff this weekend.

The snow is expected to begin on Saturday, spreading up from Pincher Creek and get as far north as Calgary by Saturday afternoon.

Reports say the snow will begin as rain but will quickly change to wet snow as the temperatures drop.

Environment Canada says that some areas could see up to 15 cm accumulation by Sunday morning.

There is also a snowfall warning that has been issued for Banff National Park, Jasper National Park, Crowsnest Pass, Cardston, Fort Macleod, and Magrath.

Heavy snow is expected in the mountain parks overnight into Saturday and, while the townsites are not expected to get a lot of snow, higher elevations could see more than 10 cm.

Officials also say that the snowfall could make travel difficult in some areas.
