Alberta Health Services (AHS) has lifted water quality advisories for Lake Chaparral and Lake Midnapore in Calgary. AHS made the announcements on Friday afternoon. The advisories for both bodies of water, both located in southeast Calgary, were put in place Aug. 28. “Water quality has returned to an acceptable level, and the health risk is low for usage of the beach for recreational purposes,” both announcements read. “As always, visitors and residents are reminded to never drink or cook with untreated water directly from any body of water, at any time.” What happened? Advisories just over a week ago noted “elevated levels of bacteria were detected via testing of the lake water” along public beach areas. “At current levels, gastrointestinal illness may result from ingestion of the water,” the Aug. 28 advisories said. “There is also the possibility of skin, ear and eye infections with water contact.”
