It will be another pleasant autumn day for Calgary on Thursday with a sunny start to the morning and building cloud in the afternoon. Today’s high will be 18C, on the higher end of the seasonal range for the city but prepare for change in the forecast for the weekend. We’ll start to see the transition on Friday as a trough in the upper atmosphere digs into southern Alberta from the west which will bring more clouds to the area along with strong southwesterly winds at 30-50 km/h. This trough will be a bit deceptive at first, as those strong winds and cloud cover will briefly make our temperatures warmer with an anticipated high of 22C tomorrow. Once the low tracks more into the province on Saturday, cooler air will take over, driving our high temperatures throughout the province down into the low teens. There’s also the potential for showers as well for some areas over the weekend, including Calgary at around a 30 per cent probability on Saturday. There are higher chances for rain in southern Alberta for regions near the Sask. border like Medicine Hat or to the west over the Rocky Mountains and foothills. The trough will weaken as the jet stream levels out near the end of the weekend which will get us back into both seasonal temperatures and stable conditions by Monday.
