Traffic stop east of High River leads to seizure of drugs, weapon and stolen vehicles

A traffic stop east of High River has led to multiple criminal charges against two people.

On Jan. 31, High River RCMP say officers identified a stolen vehicle east of town during a traffic stop.

Police say the vehicle took off, and a pursuit was not undertaken, but the Vulcan RCMP were notified.

Officers from Vulcan and Gleichen RCMP were in the area to help when a second stolen vehicle was spotted being driven by the driver of the first stolen vehicle, police said.

According to police, it also fled from a traffic stop.

Officers were able to stop it in Vulcan County using a tire deflation device .

Police say one person ran away and was arrested in a nearby field, while a second person was arrested in the stolen vehicle.

Police say they seized 170 grams of suspected methamphetamine and a loaded shotgun and recovered both stolen vehicles.

A 28-year-old man faces three charges of flight from police, two charges of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, unauthorized possession of a restricted weapon, careless use of a firearm and 15 charges of failure to comply with a release order.

He had outstanding warrants from Calgary police, Strathmore RCMP and Gleichen RCMP.

He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Siksika on Feb. 5.

A 28-year-old woman faces two charges of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of fentanyl.

She was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Okotoks on Feb. 13.
