The Wurst is over for local restaurant

After nearly six months businesses that were crippled by this summer's flood in Mission are now starting to reopen.

Wurst Restaurant and Beer Hall in the Mission area is finally reopening after the entire basement was badly damaged from the floods.

Operations Manager Chris Rosamond says they have been working hard to get the restaurant back up and running.

“It’s a super exciting time for us here. A lot of emotions over the last six months. It seems that it was a lifetime ago that we were shut down but we’re really excited to have a lot of our staff back. To be able to entertain Mission again and this is just a big day for us,” said Rosamond.

Wurst will reopen at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday and Rosamond says customers will see a little of the old style as they were able to salvage some of the furnishings.

“We have these beautiful oak tables, the communal benches that we imported the wood from Germany, so its white oak and beautiful tables. We were able to save them. They are probably about a thousand pounds each, they did float, they were floating to the ceiling when we were flooded but we took them all apart, we shipped them off, had them decontaminated, re-planed, kiln dried and then rebuilt so we’re really happy to have them back.

He says he is optimistic that the restaurant can bounce back from revenues lost during the six month closure.

“I don’t think it’s going to take long at all. The community, Calgary in general, has been so overwhelming, like our twitter and our Facebook is just going off the charts right now, people want us to succeed and its wonderful,” said Rosamond.

Rosamond says the bar has been completely rebuilt and they also have a brand-new kitchen.

He says they have a new menu and are “taking our customers feedback, from what we did the first two years and incorporate it and build on the best of Wurst.”
