Teenager faces multiple charges in connection with drug offences following suspected fatal overdoses

A teenager faces multiple charges in connection with drug offences following two suspected overdose deaths this summer.

Two people are believed to have fatally overdosed on Tsuut’ina Nation in June 2025.

Officers identified potential drug traffickers, launching a five-month investigation.

Calgary police allege a 17-year-old boy was selling cocaine, sometimes during his school lunch break.

On Nov. 13, police arrested the youth. A search warrant executed at a residence led to the seizure of cellphones, cash, scales, bear spray, cocaine and methamphetamine.

He has been charged with eight counts of trafficking of a controlled substance, seven counts of possession of property obtained by crime, two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, one count of carrying a concealed weapon and one count of possession of identity documents.

The youth is scheduled to appear in court Friday.

“It’s critical that those who sell drugs are held accountable for their actions”, said Insp. Jeff Pennoyer of the Calgary Police Service criminal networks section.

“This case is particularly disturbing since the accused is so young.”

Police say toxicology results are now pending to confirm the deaths were in fact overdose-related.

That process can take several months, police say.
