‘Something that we take for granted’: Shoes for Kids YQL aims to collect 300 pairs, $20,000

Shoes for Kids YQL is launching its fifth annual shoe drive, partnering up with local law enforcement to collect 300 pairs of shoes and $20,000 in donations.

Shoes for Kids YQL is launching its fifth annual shoe drive, and once again, they’ve partnered up with local law enforcement.

This year’s drive will be at Murray Chevrolet on Aug. 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The goal is to collect 300 pairs of shoes and $20,000 in donations.

The shoes will be given out to kids in need from kindergarten all the way to Grade 12.

More and more families have been reaching out for help as more learn about the program.

“Something that we take for granted every single day is something that these kids only dream to have,” said Mallory Kristjanson, Shoes for Kids YQL president.

“Now, as a result of five years of being in this amazing opportunity and providing this non-profit organization support, we’ve helped thousands of children throughout all of southwest Alberta, from Crowsnest Pass all the way to Bow Island.”

Financial donations can be made at any RBC branch under the account name Shoes for Kids YQL.

The organization is now a registered non-profit, meaning they can now give tax receipts.
