Popular NYC burger joint lands in Alberta

A popular American food chain is opening soon at Calgary’s Chinook Centre.

Shake Shack, which first started as a hot dog cart in New York City’s Madison Square Park in 2001, will open a new Canadian location this spring.

The Chinook Centre restaurant will be the first for the chain in Western Canada.

“Since launching in Canada in 2024, Alberta has always been our radar and we are excited for our launch,” said Billy Richmond, business director at Shake Shack Canada.

“Shake Shack is more than a burger spot—it’s a neighbourhood hub to celebrate delicious food and community. We can’t wait to serve up our signature menu items along with some Calgary exclusives.”

The business says the iconic ShackBurgers sold at the restaurant are made with 100 per cent Alberta beef and the ChickenShack is made with whole white-meat Canadian chicken.

The shakes are also made with Canadian dairy products.
