Police release details of driver and victim in fatal Calgary drive-thru crash

Calgary police say a 17-year-old was behind the wheel of an SUV that ran over a woman at a drive-thru Thursday.

Calgary police say a 17-year-old youth was behind the wheel of a vehicle that drove over a 70-year-old woman and killed her at a drive-thru in neighbourhood of Brentwood on Thursday.

The crash occurred at about 12:35 p.m. at a Wendy’s restaurant located at 4122 Brentwood Rd. N.W.

Police say the Chevrolet SUV’s driver had placed an order at the speaker, then rolled forward, driving over the victim, who was crossing the drive-thru lane but had tripped and fell into the path of the vehicle.

The driver continued through the lane and pulled over at the nearby gas station before returning to the scene on foot.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Speed, alcohol and drugs are not being considered as factors in the crash.
