Police raid multiple homes, seize $90K in drugs and cash; 3 charged in connection

Three people have been charged following a three-month investigation and the seizure of $90,000 in drugs and cash.

Calgary police began the investigation in July.

Search warrants were executed at multiple residences in October.

Officers seized large amounts of suspected cocaine, suspected fentanyl, suspected methamphetamine and suspected gabapentin.

They also seized contraband cigarettes, Canadian currency, a Ruger 10/22 rifle and a digital scale.

Christopher Wade Smith, Dion Lynn Butler and Cortney Ellen Deneve each face multiple charges in connection.

Smith, 53, is charged with:

• possession of controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking x4;
• careless storage of a firearm;
• unauthorized possession of a firearm;
• fraud under $5,000;
• possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000; and
• trafficking in contraband tobacco.

Butler, 55, is charged with:

• possession of controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking x4; and
• possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000.

And Deneve, 36, is charged with:

• possession of controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking x4;
• careless storage of a firearm;
• unauthorized possession of a firearm;
• trafficking in contraband tobacco; and
• breach of a release order x2.

Smith will next appear in court Nov. 26, Butler was set to appear Friday and Deneve is scheduled for Nov. 21.
