New Year’s resolutions make for big business in and around Lethbridge

The calendar’s switchover to January means plenty of people will be starting out on their New Year’s resolutions.

For many, that means getting back into the gym.

It’s the busiest time of the year for Cut Fitness and many other gyms in and around Lethbridge.

Last year, Cut Fitness saw a 40 per cent boost in new registrations over the two weeks following New Year’s.

Staff are doing what they can to get new gym-goers started off on the right foot.

They’re offering personal trainers and showing new members the ropes.

“Usually, the first two weeks are our biggest rush, where people come to sign up because they all believe in ‘new year, new youth,’” said Trina McDonald, Cut Fitness owner.

“Our membership base definitely increases in the first two weeks of January every year.

“It’s our favourite time.”

Regular gym users might need to wait a while before things get back to normal.

Cut Fitness staff say it takes about two months for the New Year’s rush to fully die down.
