Lethbridge’s Henderson Ice Centre heads into phase 2 of major renovation project

Phase 1 of renovations to the Henderson Ice Centre in Lethbridge is complete.

Crews built four new dressing rooms, each with a private bathroom and shower facilities.

The improvements, which began in June, are meant to make the centre more functional, accessible and welcoming.

More than $6 million has been set aside for the renovations.

The city says the arena, built in 1975, was due to be updated.

“You’re probably looking at $30 million for a new arena,” said Robin Harper, City of Lethbridge general manager of recreation and culture.

“This is still a popular arena (and) it’s still a great place for groups to participate in.

“We saw an opportunity to enhance the facility with just the renovation, and that’s why we undertook the project.”

“In phase 2, we’re going to take the existing four dressing rooms (and) we’re going to convert them into three dressing rooms and then a referee space as well,” said Jace Adams, City of Lethbridge facilities project manager.

“We’re going to add a new front lobby entrance, which will include a bit of a concession space and a new ticket office.

“And then an expansion of all of the bathrooms, and upgrading them to a barrier-free, accessible size.”

Phase 2 is set to begin on April 1.

The city says renovations are expected to be complete by late summer 2026.
