An investigation is underway into a Wednesday incident in Cranbrook, B.C., that included an assault, a school evacuation and 18-year-old suspect who police say jumped off the roof of a school. On Wednesday at around 7:51 a.m. Cranbrook RCMP say they received a report of an assault and threats involving a weapon at a home near Fourth Street North and 18 Avenue North, where they say a suspected youth male threatened people with a knife before fleeing on foot. At around 8 a.m., the suspect was located on the roof a school nearby. Out of an abundance of caution, the school was evacuated while officers contained the area and tried to communicate with the suspect. At around 10:07 a.m., police say the suspect jumped off the roof, sustaining serious injuries. First responders provided treatment, then transported him to hospital. No one else was injured. The Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) was notified and are investigating police actions in the incident.
