Ottawa motorists are paying over $1.91 cents a litre to fill up the gas tank today, but there will be relief at the pumps on Friday. Gas prices jumped eight cents a litre at stations in Ottawa and across eastern Ontario Thursday morning. The average price of gas is 191.9 cents a litre. Canadians for Affordable Energy president Dan McTeague says gas prices will drop 10 cents a litre on Friday, primarily due to the switch to winter-blend gasoline. “Plus, markets are trading in, cashing in some of their higher prices for gasoline. A lot of profit taking,” McTeague said. McTeague recommends “holding off until Friday” to fill up. Meantime the price of diesel is expected to continue to rise to record-breaking levels. Diesel prices jumped 15 cents a litre on Thursday to $2.69 a litre, and McTeague warns that will hit everyone’s wallet. “Our jets run it, our trains run it, our trucks, our maritime fleet. Everything depends on diesel,” McTeague told Toronto’s CP24. “Diesel is the global economic workhorse.”
