Hundreds of motorcyclists travel through Crowsnest Pass to honour Hailey and Terry

A noisy show of support for murder victims Terry Blanchette and his two-year-old daughter Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette made its way along Highway 3 on Saturday to deliver thousands of dollars in donations.

Nearly 300 motorcyclists, including Gerald Wentland and Jennifer Simons, took part in the ride.

“That’s kind of what our philosophy is, to be supporting members of our community and that's why we are out here today,” said Wentland.

“Just for the sake of the little girl and her daddy, to come out and show you're not forgotten,” explained Simons of her decision to become involved with the ride.

The bikers started at the Twin City Saloon in Longview, Alberta and rode across a section of the southern part of Alberta to transport the thousands of dollars in donated cash earmarked to honour the memory of the father and daughter.

“We all have kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews,” said ride organizer Troy Carlson. “A lot of these riders out here are pretty speechless.”

“It really hits close to home.”

At the end of the ride, the motorcyclists gathered at the Pure Country Saloon in Frank, Alberta the bar where Terry Blanchette worked.

The donations will be used to improve a playground in Blairmore where the father and daughter spent a considerable amount of time together.”

“They always went to the park,” said Tammy Tracey, a friend of Terry’s. “She loved that park.”

“The Lions Park, it's just a fitting place for (the donations) to go. If we raise enough money, they can put equipment there as well. They would be very happy to have equipment, it's very expensive so that's our goal.”

Rider Danny Ballance says he’s glad to support the people of Blairmore following the tragedy and a playground is a positive step.

“That's what you're trying to achieve,” said Balance. “Bring a bit of a smile back into the place. It's hard times right now and everybody is trying to make it better.”

Blairmore residents acknowledge that it will be difficult to move on following the deaths of two of their own but they will do what they can to support the Blanchette family and honour the memories of the victims.
