A health advisory is in effect for Milk River Ridge reservoir after a blue-green algae bloom was found in the water. Alberta Health Services is urging people to avoid swimming or wading where the blooms are visible, and to keep pets and livestock away from the water. People are also being told not to drink or cook with water from the reservoir, and not to eat whole fish or fish trimmings. Contact with the bloom can cause skin irritation, nausea and other symptoms and exposure can e fatal to pets. The advisory remains in effect until further notice, but areas where the bloom is not visible can still be used for recreation.
