Further answers sought in Redstone deaths; not believed linked to ongoing extortion

Police say they know the cause of two deaths in the Calgary community of Redstone, but not the manner.

Autopsies were conducted Thursday on a man and a woman, both in their 20s.

They were discovered by police following calls regarding a disturbance around 12:40 a.m. Wednesday at a home on Redstone Park N.E.

Both were found suffering from severe injuries, police say.

One died at the scene.

The other was declared dead at the hospital.

Thursday’s autopsies provided police with some but not all answers as to what exactly occurred.

“While the cause of the deaths has been determined, the manner of the deaths remains under investigation,” police said in a release issued Friday.

Police aren’t releasing the information they do have at this time, as “investigation continues into whether the deaths are deemed criminal.”

Police do, however, say the deaths are not believed to be connected with “the ongoing series of extortions targeting the South Asian community” in Calgary.

The relationship between the deceased hasn’t been disclosed.

Previously, police have said there’s no risk to the public in the aftermath of the deaths.

Police have also said they aren’t currently looking for suspects.
