EMS officials confirm the driver of a vehicle has succumbed to their injuries following a late morning crash on Highway 9.

According to EMS public education officer Stuart Brideaux, EMS crews were called to a location on Highway 9 (Range Road 272), roughly two kilometres north of Highway 564 (the extension of Calgary’s Country Hills Boulevard) at approximately 11:45 a.m. following a head-on collision involving a northbound semi and a southbound car.

Paramedics located a toppled semi in an adgacent field and a significantly damaged car.

The driver of the car  was pronounced dead at the scene.

The semi driver, a man in his 50s, suffered no serious injuries and was able to remove himself from the cab of the truck.

The drivers are believed to be the lone occupants of the vehicles.

RCMP have closed the northbound  and southbound lanes of the highway and have not released an estimated time of reopening.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
