Fairmont announces plans to build new Hotel Calgary, to open in 2031

Calgary is getting a second Fairmont Hotel.

The luxury brand, now part of Accor, announced that it will build a new “225 key” hotel at a location to be named later in downtown Calgary, which it hopes will open late in 2031.

While it didn’t specify the location, the release said the new Hotel Calgary, built in partnership with development group Truman, will be “a direct beneficiary of the Stampede Park transformation project, a major revitalization of Calgary’s Culture and Entertainment District centered around the government funded $500 million expansion of its BMO Centre, completed in 2024.”

That’s the same area where a number of other hotels have been announced, including Autograph Collection by Truman, a 13-storey, 320-room hotel that broke ground earlier in January and is expected to open in 2028.

Truman is also partnering with Marriott to build a 69-storey W Calgary that blends hotels and branded residences, as well as a 62-storey JW Marriott Calgary that also will combine hotel and branded residences.

W Calgary Tower is expected to open in 2029 and JW Marriott Calgary in 2030. They’re being built at 15 Ave. S.E. and Macleod Trail.
