Emergency crews respond to fire, explosion in Falconridge

A home in the northeast Calgary community of Falconridge was gutted in a violent fire on Tuesday.

Emergency crews responded to a fire and explosion in the northeast Calgary community of Falconridge on Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred on Falconridge Crescent N.E., among some townhouses, just after 5 p.m.

Police confirm there was a minor explosion during the fire.

Police sent officers to the scene to help people evacuate.

Firefighters were able to quickly get the flames under control and out.

The townhome showed visible damage along a portion of the top floor and into the roof.

EMS says a couple of patients were assessed.

According to the fire department’s battalion chief, two men and an elderly woman were not injured, though the elderly woman did need help due to mobility issues.

A cat is missing and a dog was rescued.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it’s believed to have started on the townhome’s deck.
