Dog up for adoption from Calgary Humane Society for 174 days now has his forever home

Bronx finds fur-ever home A great pyrenees-Irish wolfhound named Bronx got a great sendoff from the Calgary Humane Society.

CALGARY — The Calgary Humane Society is celebrating the recent adoption of a dog who had been staying at the facility for almost six months.

In a video posted to the society's social media pages, Great Pyrenees/Irish Wolfhound Bronx can be seen walking down the halls of the facility while employees line the walls to say goodbye.

Another shot shows the pup exiting the building 174 days after he went up for adoption, eagerly walking away to his forever home.

Bronx is one year old and came to the humane society in mid-May after being seized by their animal protection department.

He was put up for adoption with the recommendation he go to an adult home with no young kids and a fenced backyard.

"He really needed an active home," the humane society said. "He did not shelter well when he was living here at the kennel. He was very stressed, and as a result was displaying some really difficult and undesirable behaviours."

Bronx ended up being fostered by a staff member who had another dog in his home, which helped him.

"We learned that Bronx needed another dog to be successful," the humane society said.

His adoption then became contingent on his new owner having another dog in the house that would enjoy rough, physical play.

Bronx left the humane society on Tuesday.

The Calgary Humane Society currently has seven dogs up for adoption and 10 cats.

Almost 30 exotic pets are also available, including birds, snakes, guinea pigs and bunnies.
