Okotoks couldn’t quite come all the way back against Sylvan Lake Wednesday as the Gulls ended the Dawgs’ WCBL season with a 9-8 win. The victory gave the Gulls a two-game sweep in their best-of-three western final. After falling behind 8-2 early, the Dawgs rallied for four runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the seventh to tie the score at 8-8. However, with two down in the bottom of the eighth inning, Coleman Parry homered to left field to put Sylvan Lake back on top 9-8. In the ninth, Ricky Sanchez led off with a double, then advanced to third on a ground out by Cal Gates. Landon Kauffman grounded out and Jordan Kievman struck out, stranding Sanchez on third and ending the Dawgs’ season. It was the second straight year they were knocked out of the post-season by Sylvan Lake. Nash Crowell led the offence Wednesday with three hits, three RBI and a run scored. Kievman had four hits, and scored three runs. Jacob Wrubleski had a hit and drove in three runs. For the Gulls, Parry had a double, a homer, a walk and drove in five runs while Elija Hammill had a hit, three walks, and scored two runs. Sylvan Lake hosts Game 1 of the WCBL Finals Saturday against Saskatoon. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
