Classes resume at High River, Alta., school following Tuesday afternoon bomb threat

Police officers on scene outside Notre Dame Collegiate in High River, Alta., Tuesday investigating a threat received by school administrators shortly after lunch.

Classes have resumed at Notre Dame Collegiate in High River, Alta., following Tuesday’s bomb threat.

Just after the lunch hour onTuesday, Mounties surrounded the building after school administration received a threat.

About 550 people inside were safely moved to a nearby golf course.

Students said they were initially told there was a fire drill.

“I was kind of shocked,” said student Maxton Severe. “Also, kind of worried.”

“It’s pretty crazy, I couldn’t believe it,” said student Jackson Willcott. “I was weirded out.”

RCMP officers and police dogs conducted a search of the building throughout the afternoon. They left the scene around 5:45 p.m.

“After a thorough search of Notre Dame Collegiate, no explosive devices were located,” a news release from RCMP said.

A statement from the school board said school staff was available to support families and students who had questions or concerns, and that the school would continue to prioritize a safe learning environment.

“We recognize incidents like this can be unsettling,” said a statement from the school board.

“We thank RCMP, staff, students and families for their co-operation and calm response.”

The investigation into the threat continues.
