Conservation work is underway on some significant Calgary murals. Some large-scale murals, painted by Robert Oldrich in 1974, have been a beloved part of the downtown landscape for half a century. You’ll find them in the Plus 15 walkway on Ninth Avenue S.E. The conservation project is a partnership between the City of Calgary and the Glenbow Museum. Professionals are working to clean, stabilize and restore the art. “Any old art, including paintings, they represent the history of the city,” said Glenbow conservation manager Priyanka Vaid. “So it’s very important that we restore it and bring it to people because that’s what tells the history of the city and we cannot let the history go to waste.” Calgarians can see the restoration in action throughout the summer.
