Calgary weather: Tuesday’s high of 2 C will be the warmest temp until early next week

Calgary sees a skiff of snow on Tuesday. Jodi Hughes has a look at the five-day forecast from the Sky Watch Weather Centre.

A light skiff of snow fell over the Calgary area early Tuesday, with heavier accumulations in central Alberta and the southeast corner of the province.

Stronger northwest winds have prompted yellow-level wind warnings in east-central Alberta, with gusts up to 90 km/h expected throughout the day.

Between the snow and wind, the national weather agency noted visibility could be compromised throughout central and southern Alberta on Tuesday.

In their wind warning, Environment and Climate Change Canada explained, “Local utility outages are possible. Damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible.”

Daytime highs across central and southern Alberta will be above seasonal Tuesday, but this will be the last day before colder air moves in and drives temperatures down.

A ridge of high pressure from the Pacific basin will be blocked before slowly edging east by the end of the weekend.

On Thursday, the daytime high in Calgary will be -12 C with a low of -18 C, with wind chill values in the -20s.

While there will not be any significant melting over the next few days with these colder temperatures, there is also not any new snow in the forecast for Calgary.
