Calgarians can rid their homes of unwanted items by participating in the 2026 Curbside Treasure Hunt this weekend. The annual event, hosted by the City of Calgary, is basically a Calgary-wide garage sale – except everything is free. It will be held on Saturday and Sunday. “Over the past few years, this has become one of our most beloved events, and by taking part, residents can make a big impact in helping reduce waste,” said Natalia Gonzalez, waste diversion specialist with the City of Calgary. “We invite all members of the public to take part, whether decluttering their home or searching for that next great find.” Potential items to contribute include books, CDs, DVDs, small furniture, art, electronics, sports equipment, toys, yard and gardening tools, small appliances, kitchen gadgets, cutlery and dishes. There are some things you’re asked not to put out – like unsafe or recalled items. More information about what’s permitted is available on the City of Calgary’s website. How to participate To participate, gather any gently used items that you no longer need. Then put them outside on the curb with a sign or label that says “free” on Sept. 12 and 13. You can even print a free label from the City of Calgary’s website. New this year, you can add the items you plan to set out to a new online map by filling out a form online. If you wish, you can take a stroll through your neighbourhood – or a drive around the city – to see what treasures you can discover at other people’s homes.
