The pool at East Lions Community Centre will reopen to the public Sept. 12, two weeks ahead of schedule. The pool has been closed since July while repairs were carried out to replace damaged windows and improve the facility’s resilience to future damage. To mark the reopening, the city will offer a series of free drop-in aquatic programs on Sept. 12, including lane swims, an aquafit class, a parent-and-tot swim and a recreational swim. City officials said the project included replacing damaged windows, modifying the window design to better withstand future impacts and making components easier to replace if repairs are needed again. While the pool was closed, the community centre also underwent maintenance work, including painting at the front desk, cleaning and other minor upgrades following a busy summer camp season. Registration for fall aquatic programs is open through the city’s recreation registration website. The city thanked residents for their patience during the closure and said it looks forward to welcoming swimmers back to the facility this weekend.
