Calgary Flames alumni give WINS Holiday Gift Room a power-play boost

Hundreds of families in need will have gifts this Christmas, thanks to a program by WINS and a power-play boost from Calgary Flames alumni.

Each year, the Women in Need Society creates a welcoming environment where parents facing financial hardship can select new gifts for their children.

There is no cost to visit the Holiday Gift Room.

Items for everyone from newborns to 17-year-olds are available.

On Tuesday afternoon, Flames alumni delivered a huge haul of toys and other items.

“It’s been a great success,” said Curtis Glencross.

“We’re so lucky with Calgary and how generous people are in the city, between our hockey game that we have when we do our collection nights and with a bunch of our sponsors that pick up at different locations.”

“Working with the Flames alumni on this project is absolutely incredible,” said Karen Ramchuk, WINS president and CEO.

“The items they bring in—the amount of support that they’ll bring in for this (and) for our holiday rooms—is incredible.”

Holiday Gift Room visits begin Wednesday.

Sixteen hundred people are signed up to receive gifts.

There is an overflow list WINS will call if enough items are available.
