With the 2025 Calgary Stampede all wrapped up, construction crews are continuing with work on the city’s new event centre. Beginning Monday, construction will resume on the Stampede Trail redevelopment, Calgary’s culture and entertainment district infrastructure enhancements, site preparations for a hotel at Stampede Park and Scotia Place, the soon-to-be home of the Calgary Flames. “It’s a disruption in an investment that hopefully they’ll be able to enjoy down the road,” said Bob Hunter, Scotia Place project lead at the City of Calgary. The continuation of these projects means that there will be changes to vehicle and pedestrian access throughout the rest of the year. These include the closure of 12th Avenue and Stampede Trail S.E. and intermittent road closures on Flores LaDue Parade. Officials with the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC) say the timing of the construction projects was considered. “These next two months between now and the start of the Flames season are the quietest in the district and allow us to get that work done before we have those large groups coming in for games,” said Emma Stevens, director of communications and external relations at CMLC. The following detours are available for each closure: 12th Avenue and Stampede Trail S.E. Flores LaDue Parade Officials say all residents should leave extra time to get to their destination and always follow all detour signage and instructions from workers on site. An access map is available online. Some businesses say they have adapted to ongoing construction. “Construction keeps going on for the last two years; it’s not stopping,” said Joban Turna, owner of Wine Tales, located at the northwest corner of the intersection that will be closed. Turna says he’s not against construction but wants the city to post signage to encourage passersby to enter his business. “My biggest concern is clients—that people keep walking to my store. That’s all I care (about at) this point.” An access map is available online.
