Calgarians offered 100L of free compost from city

The City of Calgary is again offering free compost to citizens.

Officials say 2026 marks the Compost Giveaway Program’s eighth year.

Online booking started March 31.

Compost will then be available for pickup from April 13 to May 30, by appointment only, at the Shepard Landfill in the south and the Spyhill Landfill in the north.

To ensure fairness, residents may only pick up compost once during the 2026 giveaway and are limited to just 100L per household.

Participants need to bring a shovel, gloves, containers and tarps when heading for pickup.

The compost is made from food scraps and yard waste collected through the Green Cart program.
