Student injured in incident near Bishop McNally High School

Police were called to Bishop McNally High School after a student reported he'd been shot with an airsoft gun off school grounds.

Calgary police say an investigation is underway into an incident that took place near Bishop McNally High School Wednesday, resulting in a student being injured by a weapon.

Police say a male youth was assaulted by a young man with a weapon in a nearby alley.

The victim then went into the school to report what happened.

“At this time we believe that an airsoft pistol was deployed and there was minor injuries received by the victim to the face,” said Staff Sergeant Shiran Cardona, of the Calgary Police Service.

The suspect is known to police, and they don’t believe he is a danger to the community. He’s not in custody yet, but they are searching for him.

Earlier Wednesday, police said in a media statement that the school initiated a lockdown “out of an abundance of caution,” but at a media scrum shortly before noon, clarified that no lockdown took place.

Friends of the victim didn’t reveal many details to CTV News, but say the student is a nice guy.

“He is such a sweet kid, he’s funny he jokes around a lot. He’s just a really great guy. He’s always so nice,” said Madellen Clement, a grade 11 student at Bishop McNally.

“He doesn’t get into trouble or anything, he’s a really nice guy,” added Jocelyn Sorto Gonzalez.
