Attempted abduction in Coventry Hills investigated by Calgary police

Police say an 11-year-old boy was the target of an attempted luring in northeast Calgary last week.

Calgary police are investigating the attempted abduction of an 11-year-old boy from the community of Coventry Hills.

Police say the boy was bicycling on a path east of Coventry Hills School on Friday, between Covewood Park and Coverpark Road N.E., when a man tried to force him to go with him.

It happened sometime between 6 and 7 p.m., police said.

The boy managed to get away and return home, at which time his parents contacted police.

The suspect is described as being in his early 20s and around 5’6” tall (168 cm).

He was wearing black sweatpants, a grey hoodie and white shoes.

“This appears to be an isolated incident and there have been no other reports,” police said in a Tuesday news release. “While we continue to investigate the details surrounding this incident, given the seriousness of the allegation and out of an abundance of caution, this information is being shared with the public.”

Police are asking anyone who may have seen the man or who may have CCTV or dash-cam footage from the area to call 403-266-1234.
