Calgary police are hoping to retrieve a $10,000 gold necklace stolen from a man’s neck during a distraction theft. The thefts, like their name implies, occur when the victim is intentionally distracted by thieves. This specific theft occurred outside the PartSource store located at 3182 32 St. N.E. at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13. Police say the victim was in his vehicle in the parking lot when a man and woman approached, and the man knocked on his window. The victim unlocked his doors, at which time the woman allegedly got inside the vehicle and placed a fake gold necklace on the victim. “The victim protested and told her to leave. She then removed the victim’s real gold necklace, valued at $10,000, and exited the vehicle,” police said in a news release. “After leaving the area, the victim realized his necklace was missing.” Investigators have collected CCTV footage from the area in hopes of identifying the culprits. They’re asking anyone in the area who witnessed the incident – or who has dashcam footage of the area between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. on the day it happened – to come forward. The only description police released was of the female suspect, who was approximately 30 to 35 years old with light-brown hair and wearing a long black dress and a grey purse.
