S&P/TSX composite up more than 100 points, U.S. stock markets also higher

TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index was up more than 100 points in late-morning trading, helped by strength in the technology sector, while U.S. stock markets also climbed.

The S&P/TSX composite index was up 133.99 points at 34,651.69.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 361.75 points at 51,030.72. The S&P 500 index was up 26.07 points at 7,589.70, while the Nasdaq composite was up 82.40 points at 26,999.87.

The Canadian dollar traded for 72.54 cents US compared with 72.42 cents US on Thursday.

The July crude oil contract was down US$2.14 at US$86.76 per barrel.

The August gold contract was up US$85.80 at US$4,618.20 an ounce.
