‘We initially feared the worst’: Barrie police found 90-year-old woman lying in a bathtub

A 90-year-old woman who fell into a bathtub and couldn’t get up for four days, was found by Barrie police alive.

Authorities said they responded to a wellness check, something that police will do when family members or friends become concerned with someone’s well-being and need police to make sure they’re safe.

After police were called by concerned family when they hadn’t heard from her in several days, officers went to the residence to find the door open.

“When we entered the residence, we initially feared the worst,” said Sgt. James Westcott.

Once they started searching the home, they heard sounds of faint cries for help.

Officers said they found her behind a jammed bathroom door lying in an empty bathtub, unable to move for four days.

Police were able to lift her out of the tub, wrap her up to get warm and stayed with her until paramedics could take her to the hospital for an assessment.

It is unknown as to where in Barrie the woman was located.
