‘Vehicle impounded on the spot:’ OPP tags car speeding 75 km/h over limit

Provincial police say they caught a driver dangerously speeding along County Road 10 in Essa Township.

An officer reportedly tagged the vehicle speeding 155 kilometres per hour in a posted 80 zone near County Road 21.

The officer pulled the vehicle over and handed the 35-year-old motorist a stunt driving charge, resulting in the car being impounded “on the spot.”

“Speeding at this level is not just illegal - it’s extremely dangerous,” OPP stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter) about the incident. “High speeds reduce your reaction time, increase stopping distances, and significantly raise the risk of serious injury or death in a collision.”

Along with the 14-day impound fees, the motorist also received a 30-day licence suspension, which comes hand-in-hand with a stunt driving charge.

“Speed limits are in place to protect everyone on the road. Please drive responsibly and help keep our communities safe,” OPP concluded.
