Two Caledon schools placed in hold and secures following alleged threats, youth arrested

Two Caledon schools were placed in a hold and secure Tuesday following reported threats.

Around 7 a.m., Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers received a report of an alleged threat directed toward Mayfield Secondary School.

As a precaution, police placed James Grieve Public School and Mayfield under a lockdown.

Investigators say they tracked down one youth and placed them in custody. The identity of the youth remains protected under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

A hold and secure is a safety procedure used when there is a threat or emergency in the immediate vicinity of the school, but not inside of it.

“The OPP takes all public threats seriously and provides resources necessary to assess and respond to such threats,” provincial police stated in a Monday release.

Both hold and secures have since been lifted.
