Traffic woes at busy Barrie intersection for watermain work

Construction is underway along Dunlop Street in Barrie, Ont.

Motorists have to pack their patience through a busy area in Barrie on Wednesday as road construction crews undertake watermain work, which is impacting traffic.

The City of Barrie say Ministry of Transportation crews will implement lane closures, traffic restrictions, and lane shifts on Dunlop Street West, Anne Street and through the Dunlop/Anne intersection - an area that is already heavily congested.

“One lane of traffic will be maintained in all directions throughout the work, however delays should be expected from 5 a.m. until 4 p.m.,” the City noted.

Police will be on site to assist with traffic control.

The work is part of the Dunlop Street bridge reconstruction project to replace the aging overpass with a longer and wider version, which should alleviate the congestion through the area and help traffic flow.

The project is expected to be completed in 2028.
