Thousands worth of liquor stolen from LCBO in Thornbury

Provincial police investigating the recent theft of thousands of dollars worth of liquor from an LCBO in The Blue Mountains say this incident is part of a broader pattern of thefts happening across the region.

On Wednesday, police were called to the liquor store on Arthur Street West in Thornbury after three suspects reportedly filled shopping bags with bottles of scotch and left without paying.

Police say the estimated value of the stolen merchandise is between $2,000 and $3,000.

The trio was last seen leaving in a vehicle headed west on Highway 26 toward Meaford. Police say they have reviewed surveillance footage showing the suspects selecting and bagging the bottles, but suspect descriptions were not provided.

Police say they have since connected these individuals to a theft at the Home Depot in Collingwood that happened on Monday.

Incidents of retail thefts, and particularly LCBO thefts, have been on the rise across the region and the Greater Toronto Area. Provincial police say they are working collaboratively across jurisdictions to “assess the scope and connections between these occurrences.”

They ask anyone with information on this incident to contact the authorities.
