The right to bare all: Naturists group wants clothing optional area at Wasaga Beach

Winter jackets and boots are essential for a visit to Wasaga Beach this time of year, but a local group wants to have the opportunity to bare all this summer.

A group called the Wasagabares has asked the town to help establish a clothing optional area.

“It’s an ideal spot, when we are there people come along and say oh we didn’t know there is a nudist sections and I have to say officially it’s not,” said John Cropper with the Federation of Canadian Naturists.

The group wants to erect a sign on isolated sections of beach area 1 that would inform visitors that they may encounter naturists in the area.

The beach is Ontario Parks jurisdiction, but the request has been referred to the town’s tourism committee.

“They may do some research on their own and report on the tourism impact of this,” said Wasaga Beach CAO George Vadeboncoeur.

The director of the Canadian Naturists says he’s willing to cover the cost associated with putting up the signage.

A spokesperson from Ontario Parks told CTV News the provincial park is a family destination and nudity isn’t allowed. At the moment, they’re not contemplating creating a clothing optional area.
