Students at Collingwood high school evacuate due to ‘heavy burning smell’

Students at a Collingwood school had to evacuate Wednesday morning due to a “heavy burning smell.”

Fire crews were called to Our Lady of the Bay Catholic High School on Collins Street just after 8 a.m., as students and staff were starting the day.

Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Emo told CTV News it’s likely an issue with the heat pump.

“Light smoke in an office area only,” he added.

Students and staff were back inside the building just over an hour later, the Catholic board confirmed, and the day will resume as usual.
