Special weather statement issued for 85 km/h wind gusts

A special weather statement was issued for Barrie and much of southern Ontario on Sunday for heavy wind gusts.

According to Environment Canada, southwesterly winds Sunday afternoon could reach upwards of 85 kilometres per hour.

The weather agency says they are being brought by a line of showers along a cold front. The special weather statement spans from Barrie and the south shores of Georgian Bay to the shores of Lake Erie.

Residents are advised that loose objects could get tossed around and branches could break off trees, leading to possible power outages.

Hydro One announced on Saturday that crews are proactively preparing to respond to damage and outages that may occur.
